The Burdwan Development Authority formed in the year of 2002 is a statutory authority under Government of West Bengal formed under Town and Country Planning Act, 1979.

Bardhaman Planning area, as delineated by Burdwan Development Authority (BDA) extends over 157.62 Sq. Km, accommodating about 4.07 lakh population. It is located in the south part of Bardhaman district, 107 Km north-west of Kolkata Metropolitan area (KMA). The Bardhaman Planning Area consists of Bardhaman Municipal Area and its adjoining villages located in five Gram Panchayats under Bardhaman I Panchayat Samity and two Gram Panchayats in Bardhaman II Panchayat Samity.
